{sarcasm} There they go again. The liberal media just can't help but stick up for him. {/sarcasm}

Honestly, I can't say he's letting me down or even surprising me. Everyone's expectations are way too high. Don't get me wrong, I think he'll be better than most Republicans, and a hell of a lot better than the last guy. I just think as far as presidents go, he'll be average or slightly above.

"You're a downer, you know that? I'm calling you Deputy Downer from now on." * [Aug. 5th, 2008|05:11 pm]

After all of the "Meh, my life sucks" in the last post, I'd like to point out that a lot of things are going very well. For starters, as I've already mentioned, I have three cats now: Finn, Baileys and Guinness. They are all very cute and fun and bad and awesome. I had forgotten just how much I enjoy having cats around. I'm so glad Krisi encouraged me to adopt Finn last December.

I'm a lot happier coming home at the end of the day now, mostly because we have a new home. Last week we moved from yucky Columbia, MD to Baltimore, the greatest city in America.
Click here if you don't believe me! )
Columbia itself doesn't have a lot of personality. There's a lot of similar houses and chain restaurants. Also, my neighborhood was always loud, with a lot of kids and teenage wanna-be tough guys out until late in the evening. My neighborhood in Baltimore is great. The neighbors are actually nice, and any loud people on the street are just passing through instead of hanging out. And Baltimore has style! There's so much great stuff around me.

As for the girly stuff, I have made some progress. I've had several laser hair removal sessions for my face, chest and abdomen. Apart from a few dark hairs in the mustache area, I really don't have any guy hair left. I've also been on hormones for a while, which has caused some nice changes.

Overall things have been pretty good recently. Maybe now that I don't feel crappy most of the time, I notice it more when I do.

I am not making this up: this morning my other kitten, Baileys, climbed up on the edge of the toilet and fell it. My hands and arms are all torn up from giving him a bath. Note to me: trim the cats' claws tonight.

Remember, remember, the Fifth of November, blah, blah, blah... [Nov. 5th, 2007|08:20 pm]
Hey, look at that: I've still got a LiveJournal account! I guess you wouldn't know it from my lack of recent activity. Let me assure you, even though I've been a total slacker when it comes to updating or commenting on other people's journals, I have been reading all of my friends entries on a regular basis.

Tonight I was supposed to go out drinking with some coworkers and spend some time with them at the gun range (in the reverse order, actually, for safety's sake). Unfortunately, what actually happened was that we spent some time drinking at the shop, and then everyone else left to watch the Ravens/Steelers game. So I decided to ditch them, because I don't give a rat's ass about football. Oh well, at least it provided the impetus for me to turn my attention towards my long neglected LJ.

As far as sports go, I'm really only interested in the Baltimore Orioles, and my new found love: Roller Derby. Check these ladies out: http://www.charmcityrollergirls.com . If you want to see real, all out competition, then roller derby is for you. I would actually consider trying out, but I don't think they're accepting part time girls on their teams. There is a men's team in the area, but I don't think I'm cut out for that. Don't get me wrong: I'm not saying that the girls team would be easier. They're all dedicated athlete's, and their bouts can be pretty brutal some times. It's just that even the smallest guys on the men's teams outweigh me by forty pounds. Oh well, it's still a hell of a lot of fun to watch.

As you all know, Halloween has come and gone again. Unfortunately, my room mate was feeling under the weather, so we stayed at home. That didn't stop me from getting dressed up. In fact, I was able to spend a lot more time getting ready than I usually do. Right now I just have one picture for you, but I'm working on getting more up on my new Flickr account. Take a look:

Let me know what you think.

Hopefully my next update will be sooner rather than later.

Novelist Kurt Vonnegut has died. I've only read a few of his novels, but I loved every page of them. He was the sort of liberal that I want to be, putting people over politics, and always looking for the humor in things.

Your Result: Philadelphia

Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.

Moving forward [Dec. 19th, 2005|05:55 pm]
[Current Mood | determined]
[Current Music |"Expendible Youth" by Slayer]

Somewhere in Virginia he eased the hovercraft over onto the gravel shoulder and out into an overgrown pasture, dust from the dry summer swirling out behind them as he swung them left and into a stand of pine. The turbine died as they settled into the apron bag.

"We might as well eat now," he said, reaching back for Sally's canvas carryall.

Angie undid her harness and unzipped the black sweatshirt. Under it, she wore something tight and white, a child's smooth tanned flesh showing in the scoop neck above young breasts. She took the bag from him and began unwrapping the sandwiches Sally made for him. "What's wrong with your brother?" she asked, handing him half a sandwich.

"How do you mean?"

"Well, there's something . . . He drinks all the time, Sally said. Is he unhappy?"

"I don't know," Turner said, hunching and twisting the aches out of his neck and shoulders. "I mean, he must be, but I don't know exactly why. People get stuck sometimes."

"You mean when they don't have companies to take care of them?" She bit into her sandwich.

He looked at her. "Are you putting me on?"

She nodded, her mouth full. Swallowed. "A little bit. I know that a lot of people don't work for Maas. Never have and never will. You're one, your brother's another. But it was a real question. I kind of liked Rudy, you know? But he just seemed so . . ."

"Screwed up," he finished for her, still holding his sandwich. "Stuck. What it is, I think there's a jump some people have to make, sometimes, and if they don't do it, then they're stuck good . . . And Rudy never did it."

"Like my father wanting to get me out of Maas? Is that a jump?"

"No. Some jumps you have to decide on for yourself. Just figure there's something better waiting for you somewhere . . ." He paused, feeling suddenly ridiculous, and bit into the sandwich.

I can hardly wait for the movie adaptation of V For Vendetta. November is so far away. You can see a trailer for the movie here.

Also, Neil Gaiman's Mirrormask is coming to the Charles Theatre on October 7th. This movie will be awesome if it's anything like Gaiman's other work.

Anyway, that's all I have to say right now. I'm at work right now wishing it was six o'clock so that I could leave.

Busy... [Apr. 29th, 2005|12:56 pm]
[Current Mood | busy]
[Current Music |Fiona Apple - "Fast As You Can"]

I'm at work right now. Our receptionist called out sick, so we're all keeping an eye on the phones, which are ringing nonstop.

It's been a while since I've posted anything substantial here, so I guess you're due for an update. Work, as is typical for this time of year, has been crazy-busy. It's a little better right now, but the past two weeks were nuts. After all the overtime, and lack of sleep, and general pandemonium, I have been one cranky little bitch. Oh, well, like I said: things are a little bit better now. At least I have enough money now to have my poor little car serviced. The "maintenance required" light has been on for over four months now, and it's been about 15,000 miles since my last oil change.

In other new, I moved in February, and am much happier with my current living arrangements. My current roommate is not a dirtbag, so bills are actually paid on time. He's also much cleaner. My last roommate was absolutely disgusting. When I moved, the apartment was already gross. I tried to clean things up, but I couldn't keep up with his ability to create filth. In the end I just stopped trying, thinking to myself "It's only x months until I move out: I can wait." The smell in his bedroom was unbelievable. It was a heinous combination of body odor, unwashed laundry, and unemptied cat boxes. He had to keep his cats locked in his room, because they had worms, and he never took them to the vet to have it taken care of. They had worms for the entire fourteen months that I lived there, and probably still do. It makes me furious to think that someone can neglect their pets like that. All I can say is that he's very lucky that my cat, Joey, didn't get sick because of him, because it wouldn't have been pretty.

But I'm not bitter :)
I'm going to lunch now. I might write more this afternoon.

Counting my blessings... [Jan. 6th, 2005|06:27 pm]
[Current Mood | happy]
[Current Music |"Series of Dreams" by Bob Dylan]

I'm going to be positive for this entry. These are some of the things that I'm happy about:

1) My birthday is coming up soon.
2) I'm going to see the Dresden Dolls in concert on February 4th.
3) I'm moving at the end of the month, so I won't have to live with my filthy, irresponsible, dirtbag of a room mate anymore. [I think I might sound a little bitter here.]
4) Now that the holidays are over, work has slowed down enough that I'm not too busy.
5) There are a bunch of comic book based movies coming out this year: "Electra" on January 14th, "Sin City" on April 1st, and "Batman Begins" on June 17th. ["Hi, my name's Danielle, and I'm a comic book geek."]

Just a quiz... [Jan. 4th, 2005|06:08 pm]
[Current Music |"Highway 61 Revisited" by Bob Dylan]

20 Questions to a Better Personality

Wackiness: 38/100
Rationality: 80/100
Constructiveness: 52/100
Leadership: 18/100

You are a SRDF--Sober Rational Destructive Follower. This makes you a Fountain of Knowledge.

You are cool, analytical, intelligent and completely unfunny. Sometimes you slice through conversation with a cutting observation that causes silence and sidelong glances. You make a strong and lasting impression on everyone you meet, the quality of which depends more on their personality than yours.

You may feel persecuted, as you can become a target for fun. Still, you are focused enough on your work and secure enough in your abilities not to worry overly.

You are productive and invaluable to those you work for. You are loyal, steadfast, and conscientious. Your grooming is impeccable. You are in good shape.

You are kind of a tool, but you get things done. You are probably a week away from snapping.

Addendum, 2004/07/19: this fits me 99%, there is a slight inaccuracy however. We are not necessarily completely unfunny. If we have a sense of humor (I do) it surfaces on the occasion with well-timed, completely dry, very sarcastic, wit. - Chase

Of the 73106 people who have taken this quiz since tracking began (8/17/2004), 7.4 % are this type.
